[September 2018] Official Relaunch of Business Bolts

Around July I decided to relaunch and revive the Businessbolts.com website and brand. Here’s a little background on why …

Several years ago, I found myself running 3 different educational business. As you can imagine, this was a big stress on me. At some point I decided to cut it down to a single business and Businessbolts.com was left unattended.

Earlier this year I found myself feeling like I should be doing more. I reviewed my strengths and thought hard about where I could add the most value.

The most natural fit for me is helping course creators.

I’ve been offering an online course since 2004 (prior to that I sold the course as a physical product since 2001). So I’ve been running an online course business for 14+ years. I’ve stuck with it through the ups and downs, know the pitfalls, as well as what leads to success.

I believe my experience is helpful to people trying to break into the online course industry. And I’d like to contribute by moving course creators toward success.

Revising Businessbolts.com instead of starting from scratch made the most sense. It already had related content on it since it covered online marketing.

Helping course creators reach their goals is now the focus of this site.

Although I’m spending about 80% of my work time on Businessbolts.com, I can’t seem to build it up fast enough. So plan to have 3 phases to relaunching the site and brand. Here they are …

Phase I: Relaunch

During this phase I had to clear out the old and make room for the new.

To get a faster/better online experience for my visitors and easier maintenance for me, I transferred the site over to a top WordPress host. The old theme was very outdated (it wasn’t even mobile friendly!) so I updated the theme. Then I began the process of moving over all the old content. I sorted through all the posts (there were at least 100 old posts), consolidating some and deleting others.

Since the old site was geared more toward general online marketing and SEO, I started over with the home page, about page, and contact page. If you’re a course creator then I want you to know this site is for you right after you land on it.

I had been running a membership site and I moved all that old content off (this included courses; both free and paid). I got the Business Bolts checklists free membership back up and running.

Lastly, I set-up my email marketing tool so I could start collecting and sending emails.

By the end of August, this phase was complete. At this point I felt like the site was officially relaunched and ready to be loaded up with helpful content for course creators!

Phase II: Tools Required to Start an Online Course Business

Tools are a big sticking point for a lot of people. Many future course creators have a great course idea, but worry endlessly about stuff like the following:

  • How much will it cost to start an online course business?
  • What tools do are crucial?
  • Which online course platform is best?

My aim is to help answer all these questions very completely. That way you know exactly what you need and which tools are the best fit for you.

To start off the tools selection, I put together the following PDF: “Top Online Course Solutions: Guide to Choosing the Best Fit for You”. It includes a breakdown of the 3 main course solution categories along with the top online course platforms for each. You can get a hold of that here:

Phase II may take through the end of this year.

There are a lot of tools to choose from and I don’t just want to steer everyone in the same direction.

There’s no-one-size-fits-all to course platforms which makes it more difficult. It really depends on your specific needs and budget (of course).

I’d like to help those just starting out with very little money as well as those adding online courses to an already profitable and growing business.

Phase III: Content to Inspire & Motivate

I’m really looking forward to this phase of the site. If you’ve got a story to share with your online course business, I’d love to hear from you. It’s stories like yours that will help inspire and motivate others.

If you’re a course creator, whether starting out or have been offering one for a while, this site exists to help you out. I’m really looking forward to sharing my knowledge and experience to help move you toward success!
